Real Madrid is reportedly exploring an intriguing swap deal that could see Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez make a summer move to Spain. The Argentine midfielder is said to be “very interested” in a potential transfer to the prestigious La Liga club.
Chelsea made headlines when they broke the British transfer record by signing Fernandez for a hefty €121 million on deadline day in January 2023. While the 24-year-old initially struggled to justify that large price tag, his form has significantly improved this season, recording five assists and four goals in the Premier League.
Fernandez has solidified his role as a key player under manager Enzo Maresca, with a long-term contract extending another seven years, leaving Chelsea in a strong position to keep hold of their star. This makes it unlikely that the London club will entertain offers for Fernandez, particularly at a lower price.
Real Madrid, aware of the financial commitment required to sign Fernandez, is reportedly considering including Aurelien Tchouameni as part of the deal. Chelsea has long admired the French midfielder, who joined Real Madrid from Monaco for €80 million in 2022. Tchouameni has been a regular in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad, but with injuries affecting his role, he has primarily been used at center-back this season.
While Fernandez is “very happy” at Chelsea and eager to play a central role in the club’s revival, the allure of Real Madrid may prove difficult to resist.
Chelsea, in the midst of a potential midfield overhaul, is considering departures for players like Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and the injury-prone Romeo Lavia. Meanwhile, promising youngster Andrey Santos is expected to make an impact after a successful loan spell at Strasbourg.
Despite this, Fernandez remains a key figure at Stamford Bridge, and Chelsea is not looking to part with him easily. It would take a significant financial offer for the Blues to even consider a future without their vice-captain, even with Tchouameni potentially arriving as a replacement.
