Chelsea have no plans to end Jadon Sancho’s loan deal early, despite having a clause that could allow them to send him back to Manchester United, as reported by CaughtOffside.
Since joining the Blues, the 24-year-old winger has struggled to make a major impact, with just two goals and six assists in 28 appearances across all competitions. While there have been moments of brilliance, his overall performances have been underwhelming.
As per the terms of the loan, Chelsea are required to make Sancho’s move permanent if they finish above 15th in the Premier League, a target they are on track to meet under manager Enzo Maresca.
However, no long-term contract was agreed before his arrival, meaning new negotiations are needed to finalize the transfer.
Although there were rumors that Chelsea might reconsider making the deal permanent, journalist Ben Jacobs reports that backing out would come with financial implications. If Chelsea were to return Sancho to United, they would need to reimburse the club for all wages paid during the loan, as well as additional costs.
As a result, Chelsea are expected to move forward with securing Sancho’s permanent transfer, with the final fee potentially reaching €30 million, depending on their league position.
Jacobs also mentioned that Chelsea remain satisfied with the winger’s contributions thus far, stating it would be a “surprise” if they decided to walk away from the deal.
With Chelsea committed to proceeding, Sancho is likely to remain at Stamford Bridge, despite not fully meeting expectations.
