Robin van Persie has signed a contract to become the new manager of Feyenoord, his boyhood club, until June 2027, as confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. This appointment marks a significant step in Van Persie’s career, as he returns to a club where he made a lasting impact as a player.
Van Persie had a stellar playing career, starring for top clubs such as Feyenoord, Arsenal, and Manchester United. His return to Feyenoord, where he began and ended his playing career in the 2018-2019 season, adds an emotional layer to his managerial debut.
According to Romano, who shared the news via X on February 21, Van Persie will be joined by Rene Hake on his coaching staff. Hake, who previously worked as an assistant to Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, brings valuable experience to the team.
Romano stated, “Robin van Persie signs today as the new Feyenoord head coach until June 2027. Former Erik ten Hag’s assistant Rene Hake will join his staff too.”
This announcement comes at a crucial time for Feyenoord, as they are set to face Italian giants Inter Milan in the knockout stage of the Champions League.
David Ornstein of The Athletic reported that Feyenoord successfully negotiated the terms with Van Persie and his current team, SC Heerenveen, where he had been managing prior to this appointment.
Under Van Persie’s leadership, Heerenveen has had a mixed season, with seven wins, six draws, and ten losses from 23 league matches, along with an early exit from the Dutch Cup in the round of 16.
