Gernot Rohr, the technical adviser of the Benin national team, has extended his best wishes to Eric Chelle, the newly appointed head coach of the Super Eagles.
The German coach expressed confidence that Chelle will gain valuable experience in his new role, adding that the Malian coach will achieve success with the Super Eagles.
“I wish all the best to the Super Eagles and Eric Chelle. I know him; he was a great player,” Rohr told Brila.net. “He began his coaching career in France with a mid-table team and later had the opportunity to manage Mali, a very strong side.”
“The experience will come, and I hope he instills confidence in the players—just not against Benin.”
Chelle was recently unveiled as the new head coach of the Super Eagles and is expected to guide Nigeria to success at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) later this year.
He will face Rohr’s Benin team in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers later this year. Currently, Nigeria sits fifth in their World Cup qualifying group and must win all their remaining matches to have any hope of qualifying for the tournament.
