Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is looking beyond current setbacks and maintaining a focus on the club’s long-term goal of securing a 14th Premier League title.
The Red Devils have won 13 league titles, all under the legendary management of Sir Alex Ferguson, who reshaped British football during his remarkable 27-year reign at Old Trafford.
While United have never finished lower than eighth in a Premier League season, they are on track to break that record this term. Currently sitting 14th in the table, 10 points behind eighth-placed Brighton, they have suffered 12 losses in their 27 matches so far.
Their hopes of a cup run were also dashed in the FA Cup, where a penalty shootout loss to Fulham in the fifth round ended their defense of the trophy. Now, the only route to European qualification for next season is by winning the Europa League, where they will face Real Sociedad in the round of 16.
Amorim, who has overseen 10 wins, five draws, and nine losses in his 24 games at the helm, has often appeared frustrated on the sidelines, troubled by his side’s struggles to adapt to his tactical approach and maintain consistent performances.
However, despite these challenges, he remains positive. Speaking after United’s latest defeat, he reiterated the club’s aspirations, saying the focus remains on winning the Premier League.
“The goal is to win the Premier League,” Amorim told reporters. “I know we are losing games and trophies this season, but the objective is still to win the Premier League again.
“I don’t know how long it will take, but that is our goal. If you keep that in mind, we can suffer from defeats, sometimes a lot. But we must stay focused on our goal, no matter what. It’s impossible to predict when it will happen. I am starting to understand the players better and the league more. I know how to manage the squad and plan for the future, and we’ll see what happens.”
