Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has reassured fans that midfielder Bruno Fernandes will not be sold this summer, despite ongoing speculation linking him with a move to Real Madrid.
Fernandes, who openly considered his future at United last summer, has continued to shine for a team that has underperformed this season. Despite the Red Devils sitting 13th in the Premier League, Fernandes leads the club in both goals and assists, with eight and ten respectively.
With United struggling to meet Fernandes’ ambitions as he approaches his 31st birthday, rumors surfaced suggesting he could be lured to Madrid with an offer of £90m. However, Amorim was quick to quash these rumors, assuring fans there is no reason for concern.
“It’s not going to happen,” Amorim stated firmly when asked about a potential move to Madrid. He further emphasized his desire to keep the Portugal international, saying, “The challenge now is to convince Bruno that he can still achieve his goals here at Old Trafford.”
Amorim expressed his confidence in Fernandes, saying, “We want Bruno here because, even in the low moments of our season, we are aiming to win the Premier League again. We need the best players to stay with us. He’s 29, but he plays 50-55 games every season. With his assists and goals, he’s consistently contributing. He’s the type of player we want here, and he’s not going anywhere.”
Amorim also shared that he had spoken with Fernandes about his future at the club and believes the midfielder is happy at United. “We are in control of the situation,” Amorim explained. “He understands what we want to do here, and I think he feels like a true supporter of Manchester United.”
Addressing Fernandes’ visible frustration at times, Amorim added, “Some may see it as a negative in a captain, but it’s actually a sign that he wants success so badly. This is the type of player we want, and I’ve already told him he’s not going anywhere.”
