Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has again refused to rule out the possibility of winger Alejandro Garnacho leaving the club, as the 20-year-old continues to adapt to his role in the team’s evolving setup.
Garnacho has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea in recent weeks. Despite the speculation, Amorim entrusted the Argentine with a starting role in United’s 1-0 victory over Fulham on Sunday.
While it wasn’t a standout display from any of United’s forwards, Amorim admitted post-match that he is still experimenting to find Garnacho’s best position within his preferred formation.
“He is improving in every part of the game—his understanding, when to defend,” Amorim explained. “I am trying to find the best position for him. Today, he played a bit more open, not as central. We need players who can excel in one-on-one situations.”
When asked if Garnacho will remain at the club beyond the transfer window, Amorim responded: “That, nobody knows. Anything can happen.”
This isn’t the first time Amorim has addressed Garnacho’s future. In the past, he has challenged the winger to step up his performances to secure a consistent place in the starting lineup. Despite those demands, Amorim has praised Garnacho’s response, particularly after being dropped in December—a fate that also befell Marcus Rashford, who remains out of favor.
Chelsea are actively seeking a new forward and are expected to intensify their pursuit of Garnacho. Reports have even suggested the possibility of a swap deal involving Christopher Nkunku heading to Manchester United in exchange for the young Argentine.
