Kelechi Iheanacho joined Middlesbrough on a six-month loan from La Liga’s Sevilla on Monday evening, marking his return to England after successful spells with Manchester City and Leicester City.
“We’re obviously delighted to have Kelechi joining us. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to make it in time for tonight, but he’s going to be an important player for us and have a big impact,” said Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick to Sky Sports.
“We have some strong attacking players. We’ll have a solid week of training to get everyone settled before we go again.”
Iheanacho is expected to make his debut for Middlesbrough in their upcoming match against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Wednesday, February 12.
In other transfer news, Chelsea confirmed several player transfers, including Harvey Vale, Somto Boniface, Zak Sturge, and Travis Akomeah.
Chelsea announced early Tuesday that Vale has completed a permanent move to Championship club Queens Park Rangers. Vale, who signed his first professional contract in September 2020, made two appearances for Chelsea’s senior team this season under manager Enzo Maresca.
Somto Boniface has moved to Ipswich Town after progressing through Chelsea’s youth system, where he played for both the Under-18s and Under-21s teams.
Defender Travis Akomeah is set to join Championship side Watford, returning to a club where he began his career after joining Chelsea at the Under-16 level.
Lastly, Zak Sturge will spend the remainder of the season on loan at Millwall. Sturge, who joined Chelsea in August 2022, had a loan spell at Peterborough United last season.
