Trent Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool’s right-back, has reportedly reached a full agreement to join Real Madrid when his contract expires this summer.
Madrid has been pursuing Alexander-Arnold for over a year, waiting for him to become available on a free transfer, and they’ve remained confident about securing a deal for the 26-year-old English defender.
Recent reports indicated that Alexander-Arnold turned down another offer to extend his contract with Liverpool, and now Sky Sport Switzerland claims that a move to Madrid has been finalized.
The 26-year-old is set to sign a five-year deal with Madrid, which will include a significant signing-on fee that could be comparable to a “reasonable transfer fee,” in addition to a substantial pay rise.
Liverpool were aware of Alexander-Arnold’s ongoing negotiations with Madrid and made multiple attempts to persuade him to stay, but have now accepted that his departure is imminent.
As a result, Liverpool will focus on finding a replacement for the right-back. Manager Arne Slot has reportedly been in talks with Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong about a potential summer move to Anfield.
However, Liverpool’s primary focus is on signing a new striker, with a centre-back also high on the priority list. A right-back is likely to be signed only after these positions are addressed.
If no replacement is found, academy graduate Conor Bradley is expected to be promoted to the starting lineup.
