Liverpool manager Arne Slot has admitted that his side “ran out of luck” after being eliminated from the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.
The Reds had won the first leg 1-0 at Parc des Princes, despite PSG dominating much of the game. However, it was PSG who scored the only goal at Anfield, sending the match to penalties, where Liverpool fell short.
Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones both missed their penalty kicks, while PSG converted all four of theirs.
“During the first 20-25 minutes, we were all over them, creating chance after chance, and suddenly we were 1-0 down,” Slot told Amazon Prime. “It felt like we might’ve run out of luck because the margins were so small tonight. After 90 minutes, it felt like we deserved more than just being 1-0 down. I kept expecting us to score.”
Slot continued, “Apart from the last five minutes of the second half, when PSG threatened us once or twice, I think we played the perfect game. It was similar to what happened to PSG last week—they played well but didn’t score, and today, it was our turn.”
