Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has revealed that a decision regarding his future will be made public “in the upcoming weeks.”
Van Dijk’s contract situation has been a hot topic throughout the season, with the Dutch defender, like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah, set to become a free agent in July. However, he has yet to agree to a new deal.
While Van Dijk was initially seen as the most likely of the three to remain at Anfield, rumors about his potential departure have intensified this year, with reports of lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia and interest from European clubs.
In an effort to dispel the growing speculation, Van Dijk has remained tight-lipped about his future, stating that no decisions have been made yet. During a Cadbury event on Thursday, he offered a rough timeline for when the uncertainty might come to an end.
“I can’t say more than there will be news in the upcoming weeks,” Van Dijk said. “Whether it’s positive or not, I have no idea at this point. I mentioned it many times before, I am calm, this is what happened many times before. I love the club and the club loves me, I love playing for Liverpool, I love being around the boys each and every day.”
He added, “At this stage, I’m not really panicking whatsoever, so let’s see.”
Liverpool are reportedly “optimistic” that both Van Dijk and Salah will sign new contracts before the end of the season. However, Alexander-Arnold’s future at Anfield remains uncertain, with many reports suggesting he could be on the brink of a move to Real Madrid.
