AC Milan official Zlatan Ibrahimovic has confirmed that the club is working on a deal to sign Kyle Walker from Manchester City, the reigning Premier League champions.
Walker has expressed his desire to leave City this month and has already approved a move to Milan, who submitted their first official bid earlier this week.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the clubs are negotiating a loan deal for Walker, with Milan aiming to secure an option to make the transfer permanent in the summer.
Ibrahimovic, who now serves as a senior advisor to Milan after a legendary playing career, acknowledged the club’s interest in bringing in the experienced right-back.
“Everyone knows that Walker is a great player, he has done great things at City,” Ibrahimovic told DAZN. “When someone like him is available, there is a lot of interest.
“It aligns with our vision because he is strong, a leader, and has influence in the dressing room. We are now checking if it is possible.”
Final talks between Milan and City are expected soon, with Walker’s move to Milan likely to be finalized next week.
Should Walker depart, City will be left with a significant gap in their defense, already weakened by a series of injuries to Ruben Dias, John Stones, Manuel Akanji, and Nathan Ake, which have contributed to struggles in their Premier League title defense.
To address the void, City is reportedly finalizing a £33.6m deal for Lens’ Abdukodir Khusanov, while a £30m deal for Palmeiras’ Vitor Reis is also close to completion.
